Thursday, 6th November in the evening, while we were getting her ready for the shower, mummy found something on her back she doesn’t want to see! A spot that looks like chickenpox!!! Only 1 though, no fever, no runny nose…etc. Hoping it wasn’t but we booked an appointment with the GP on Friday anyway… praying really hard.
More spots came out on Friday, looks like it is chickenpox for sure. Then we also realised, this affects our holiday plans, as we were due to fly out on Wednesday 12th Nov! So that got pushed back to Friday, 14th after talking to the GP.
So we got cream, got stuff for the bath and got antihistamine for Emma. All is well, she didn’t seem to be too bothered by it at that point.
Things slowly got worse as A LOT more spots came out during the weekend. Did I mention she has it really bad? Even in her mouth, on the tongue, ears, in her private areas, bums, all over her body and even on the fingers and feet!!
Sunday night, mummy had to go sleep in her room with her… well not much sleep, in fact, less than 2 hours, not continuous either!! Monday, Emma seemed okay but not too happy and that night, although she was sleeping a little better, but mummy found she felt burning hot, the fever was going up around 39.5 or something like that. After burfen, still doesn’t seem to get better, mummy called the healthline for advice and was told not to use burfen, stick with pamol. If the fever goes over 40 degrees, take her to the hospital or see GP. 2 hours later, the fever went up to 39.8, so 4 or 4:30am, daddy got woke up to get ready to take Emma to A & E.
Doctor said she has an infection, needs to be on antibiotics. This is the first time Emma’s ever on antibiotics for real. (We had doctors wrote perscriptions for it before when it wasn’t actually needed). The doctor also asked us to take her to the GP for a follow up; she also did say that, well Emma looks fine, other than just upset as what kids do when they are sick, nothing unusual. She will definitely be fine for flying by Friday.
Emma’s normal GP wasn’t in for that afternoon, so we saw a different doctor, she said the ears also had infection (well she said ears are both red); also gave some Calamine lotion for Emma, said not to use other cream anymore. That stuff was pretty good! We used to have those as well for soothing itchy spots. She also said Emma should be better within 24 hours.
That evening, Emma was looking better, still getting regular top-ups of pamol and all these meds just means she does a bit more screaming when we try to give them to her. ^^;;;
Last night, mummy finally can sleep in their own bed and had better sleeps. Emma woke up around 11:30pm, took a while for Daddy to settle her down and went back to sleep. 3:xxam was when mummy had to go in and sleep with her again. But, we only woke up at 7am after that. Woke up happy, too! Started with a “Ma ma…” (wanting a hug) to “da da… daddy… daddy” (looking for daddy – which is what she’s been doing in the mornings now)
Today she’s definitely much much happier! Back to her usual self most of the time, not as clingy (yesterday, has to be held for most of the day, and lots of screaming); and quite happily wanders off in the house to explore and terriorise every room. Still not back to normal with food, but at least we ate more food today; less milk though!
The worst part is definitely over. Hopefully mummy gets more sleep tonight!!
ps. Sorry folks, no Chinese translation on this post, maybe will come back to do this later… too tired!
