* 20 month*
Emma started having diarrhoea from Monday evening, very nice of her, always save it for mummy. Tuesday, she had another one and a fever. So we kept her at home on Wednesday.
So, as it was very unexpected and there were loud noises in the office driving mummy nuts, so mummy decided to work from home on Wednesday and keep an eye on Emma, too.
Work was busy and Emma was rather demanding of mummy’s attention as well… all was fine. We had another diarrhoea around 1pm with all the tiny little amount of breakfast we ate. Around 3pm-ish, some crisis at work happened, our system was running very slowly and mummy was busy on the computer a lot and ignoring Emma. Almost 4pm, as we were wrapping things up at work, Emma kept on crying mummy mummy… or something like that. I finally turned around and looked, oh boy… there goes all the lunch on the floor. She had just vomited and she is very scared of vomiting.
So off to get her changed and get the floors cleaned with “Ah-ma” (grandma)’s help. We seemed alright at the time and was asking for a bottle. So 100ml was given, considering she just threw up all her lunch.
Daddy got home not long after that and was plaaying with her. That was around 5:15 and she threw up all those milk back to daddy and down his shirt, too. So off we went for another round of change. She was given some water and shortly after that, she threw up again with those water, that’s only 30 mins from the last time she threw up.
That’s when we thought, better get her to a doctor and get checked out. But it’s a little too late for our normal GP. So we went to the A & E. While we were there, she vomited while we were in the waiting room and again when we got to the pharmacy…. and lots more times after that.
In short, she has a tummy bug (viral) and just have to keep trying her with small amount of water (20-30ml) at a time and see how she goes, before we proceed to juice, then milk, then some solids.
So from 4pm on Wednesday, till 4:30am the following morning, she vomited 17 times. Finally was able to hold the water in after 4:30am.
Thursday, I stayed home again and the whole day she was just sleeping and up for some more fluid. Only threw up 4 times I think. First time seeing her so lifeless and doesn’t even want to sit up or stand up. No talking either other than asking for water. Didn’t even have energy to cry!!
Finally when daddy got home, she showed some signs of energy but rather short lived. Only till later that evening, after 2 helpings of rice water and had those stayed down, she started showing interests in her toys and books. Even wanted me to chase her around the house!! Finally, I knew the worst is over.
Friday morning, apparently she had more sleeps and only till I got home from meetings, she was a bit more lively and wanted to go see ducks, which she got. We also took her to the supermarket to get her some white bread to try her on, as she was getting sick of the rice water, and finally had energy to cry and scream for food. (Well before daddy got home, we did one round of that for “da da”, too).
By Saturday, other than still eating quite a bit less and drinking more water, less milk. Defintely a lot better, but not 100% yet, considering we slept through the night and had almost 13 hour sleep overnight! I think the visit to her cousins helped! And 2.5 hours nap later, still napping now! Better go wake her up!
Through this, mummy was surprisingly awake and functional despite the lack of sleep and all the stress from having her being sick and work being really busy. I’ve lost 1kg in 1 day and of course slowly gaining them back as expected!
Just glad to have our normal happy girl back! We will even put up with some crying and screaming when she can’t get her ways!
