Skin Test
* Monday, 18th Jan 2009; 2.5 years*
We took Emma for a skin test on Monday afternoon. We only start to get a little anxious once we got there, wondering what her reaction would be. Prior to the visit, I’ve been telling her that we are going to take her for a test, to check if she can eat chocolates and fluffy even when she’s been scratching. She was okay with that, hoping she can eat more chocolates! And fluffy!
She also seemed a little tense and didn’t want to go through the hall way to get to the lab test place.
Once we got into the test room, she sat on daddy’s laps and still not sure what’s happening.
The lady explained that she’s going to write numbers on her arms, we counted from 1 to 16 and she was okay too. She was carefully looking at the lady’s every move, checking out what’s going on.
Then 18 drops went onto her arm (1 for a positive reaction, 1 for negative + 16 common allergents). We also counted with the lady. She stayed still and seemed okay.
Then it comes the most scary part, as there is a metal thing which will scratch the skin a bit to soak the drops in, I suppose. So the lady asked us to hold her a bit more to make sure she doesn’t move. So mummy got one arm and daddy got another one. Surprisingly, the little prick didn’t bother her at all. At the end of all of them, we joked… “more?” she actually nodded.
So I don’t think she was scared, probably more curious on what’s happening.
Then there was the wait to see if she has any reactions to any of the allergents.
15 mins later, only 1 showed a big reaction – dust mites!!
1 other very tiny, which I think on the results card, it was reported as negative…. cat hair!
Well, at least now it explains why sometimes eating cheese makes her itchy and other times is okay!!
She’s not allergic to cow’s milk, probably means she’s okay with dairy as well!
Well, that was a relief! I think!
At least now I’m very sure that when we replace the carpet in the house, our rooms would be wooden floors instead!
Although I do wonder, if this means we can start giving her cheese sandwishes for daycare!
