* 2 years 10 months*

On Monday, 31st May 2010, Emma graduated from the Alten Road ECE (caters children from 3months to 3 years old) officially starts at the new ECE over at Symonds St (caters children from 2.5 years to 5).

This marks a big milestone for Emma and it also means our little girl is slowly growing up!

On Monday, daddy and mummy are fully prepared to be ‘late’ to work as it’d be the first day at the new school. Emma was a bit shy but quickly found the new kitchen set and associated toys interesting. Then Amy, her best friend arrived. So we had a rather civilised goodbye while she’s still happily playing and thanking our lucky stars.

When I went to pick her up that afternoon, first thing she said was: “My mother is here!” I thought.. interesting.

Tuesday, it was a little different as the teachers were different from the ones we saw the day before. We had another round of introduction. Everything went peacefully, no screaming and no crying. There was a bit of reluctance for us to leave but the teachers were so patient with her, pulling out different toys and things to distract her. We waved goodbye.

Even after 2 days at the new centre, we’ve noticed differences. She already talks a lot at home now she talks even more, with new sentences and vocabs, too!

Above all, the manner was improved! She’d say: “May I….” and also she’d say “sorry” straight away if she knocks you by accident. Or when you ask her to do something and she’s still busy with something else… she’d say: “Sorry mummy, I’m just busy with this” (or I’m still busy playing).

I thought… :-O Wow! Who are you?

Wednesday morning, she asked me: “where are we going?”
I said: ‘to school and daddy and mummy are going to work’.
She asked: “Are we going to Symonds St?”
I said: ‘Yes’ (waiting for protests and complaints…)
But surprisingly, she seemed happy with the answer.

By Thursday, we got her little chair set up by the goodbye window; while the teachers were still busy, we left and saw her standing there waving goodbye by herself. No tears.

Wow! How lucky was that for first week at the new school!!

She’s settled in very nicely and slowly warming up to the teachers. I think she’s mentally ready for the new learning environment and activities; especially new activities and new toys!

These 2 weeks, we get a bit of tears every now and then, but she’s happy for the teachers to cuddle her and wave goodbye to us; wiping her tears with her little cuddly cloth. Apparently that’s all fine as soon as we are gone. So I think she’s doing so well with the transition and growing up to be a big girl! Very proud of her!
